KICKING THINGS OFF......... DJ MARKY'S TALENTS ARE RECOGNISED AT THE ANNUAL DJ AWARDS
The 11th Edition of the DJ Awards took place on Thursday 25th September in Pacha, Ibiza. The event was a huge celebration of yet another fantastic year for electronic dance music. Hosted by Des Paul (MTV UK and Capital Radio London) and Mariana Ribelo to a packed venue. The DJ Awards marked 11 years of honoring the world’s best DJ’s and included live performances by both RON CARROLL and FRAGMA.
As with every year the DJ Awards celebrates top DJ’s in several music genres from “Techno” to “Trance” along with the industry’s up and coming new breakthrough names. The music awards were all voted for by the public, thus making them extra special for the winners.
Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Richie Hawtin, Steve Lawler, David Guetta, Adam Beyer, Sasha and Jazzanova were just some of electronic dance music’s leading names to take home a coveted DJ Awards Kryptonite. Special awards were presented to those who have influenced and dedicated their services to the music industry; Bill Kelly, co-founder of the Miami Music Conference and Beatports founder Jonas Tempel, also Cocoon for Best Ibiza Night and MARK KNIGHT & FUNKAGENDA won Best Ibiza Track for their song ‘Man with the Red Face’ which has been heard across all the dancefloors of Ibiza.
But the main focus of the show was of course the Dance Nation of The Year category, which this year was Brazil! A host of famous faces were in attendance including our very own DJ Marky, who walked away with the coveted piece of Kryptonite. It was a great honour for DJ Marky and further elevated the status of Brazil as a genuine electronic music nation.

NEW RELEASE INFORMATION
FORTHCOMING THIS OCTOBER - SEBA & KRAZY!
Catalogue Number: INN026
Artist(s): Seba & Krazy
Release Date:October 2008
A)Arsenic
B)Finola
Seba & Krazy are the latest additions to the Innerground family with their epic single Arsenic/Detroit Amen.
Arsenic harps back to the days of old when all that mattered was a beat and a b-line, nothing else. A tidy and subtle track, Arsenic slides through the intro and background vocals to release a soft harmony.
Finola has been floating around for a while in DJ Marky’s sets and has taken many a crowd by storm. That signature amen break rolls in after a few bars and truly sets the tome for the rest of the track. Somewhat of an excursion from normal Innerground music, Finola brings that certain little something to the fray and puts the track at the head of the experimental, minimal side of the genre.

Catalogue Number: INN025EP – RUSH HOUR E.P.
Artist: DJ MARKY & MAKOTO/MAKOTO
Release Date: July 2008
A) SECRET PLACE
B) LONG DISTANCE: SAO PAULO - TOKYO
C) IMPULSE
D) GET 2 THIS - MAKOTO
DJ Marky & Makoto need little introduction in their own right. The long time Good Looking member, Makoto, has been beavering away in his studio in Tokyo working hard on a wide ranging selection of beats that fully showcase his diversity as an artist, and it would seem that in 2008, with the launch of his label Human Elements, the shackles are off and it is time to come out fighting!
DJ Marky has been at the forefront of pioneering Drum and Bass for the best part of a decade. His extended sets have become the word of legend and he continues to throw as much effort and energy at his label work as he does every other aspect of his career. And thus, The Rush Hour EP was born.
The EP kicks off with Secret Place, a lovely lamenting beast of a track. This has seen plenty of air time across the globe abd for good reason. A sweet and sultry piano track gives way to a brief female vocal before the full effect of the bassline is unearthed.
Following is Long Distance, which many may remember as one of the DJ friendly tracks given away on the recent DJ Marky & Friends mix album. A warmer, softer approach from the duo on the B-Side, with the use of real instruments and a slow and steady driving bassline.
A dynamic snap then to Impulse, a classic before it has even begun. Many a set will begin with this track over the coming months. Impulse really gives the listener a little slice of each of the artists personalities. Dominating beats come from Makoto’s corner and a deep bassline from DJ Marky.
Finishing off with a solo effort from Makoto in the shape of Get 2 This. A track to truly tickle one’s fancy it builds nicely layer upon layer until the crescendo before the break. Get 2 This is a real diamond and sets the whole EP off nicely with smooth beats and an even smoother ripple of bass throughout.
Catalogue Number: INN024EP – HER SONG E.P.
Artist: RANDOM MOVEMENT
Release Date: AVAILABLE NOW!!
INN024EP
A) Her Song
B) The Things You Do
C) Psychedelic Drainpipe
D) A Good Start Is Saying No
2008 kicks off in epic style for the Innerground label as American heavyweight, Random Movement, embarks on his first double pack offering.
Many will know Random Movement, AKA Mike Richards, for his soulful rolling beats and sublime use of samples. Thus far his name has graced two 12-inch releases and managed to feature on both parts of The Master Plan EP series. Now Random is back in business, hungry and ready to decimate the dancefloor with four truly uplifting floor fillers.
First up is Her Song, an ode to that which is most important in Random’s life. A soft intro is punctuated by gentle male vocals before the drop, which comes amid a crescendo of bass.
The B-Side, The Things You Do, is one of those tunes that literally stops you in your tracks. Simplicity is key here as the track builds and builds with each layer that is added before climaxing with an understated bassline that echoes and works alongside all other elements.
Possibly one of the most anticipated tracks of the last 6 months has been Psychedelic Drainpipe. A favourite with label boss DJ Marky and crowds alike, this track has been rocking dancefloors across the globe with its mellow throb of a bassline.
Rounding off what can only be described as an EP for all seasons is the seductive and compelling A Good Start Is Saying No. Swathing into the first breakdown with a flurry of high hat percussion and gentle piano, the track bursts into life after a brief vocal episode. The melodies at work here are smooth and totally complimentary.
This stunning EP has been crafted and selected to better showcase the true diversity of Random Movement as an artist and his ability to adapt his productions to any situation whilst retaining the notorious sound that is synonymous with his style.

INN022EP1 – THE MASTER PLAN PART 1
Release Date: AVAILABLE NOW!!!
DJ Marky opens the scoring on the LP with V Records regulars and Widescreen/Integral owners A.I. Shame is the fruit of their labours and is an incredible track. Aiming to allow the short and stabbing bassline to do all the work, Shame incorporates all that is good and wholesome about Marky and A.I.’s work to date, and the addition of an exclusive Ben Westbeech vocal only adds to the overall flavour of the track to make it one of the sure shots of the summer.
C.A.B.L.E.’s music has graced many a 12” in recent times and New Infection can only be described as “dangerous”. A tribal element is evident here and New Infection has that bouncy quality which is administered with ruthless efficiency. As the track drops the full effect of the fast paced and almost percussive bassline is realised and continues in an undulating fashion throughout the track.
Random Movement’s first offering is a collaboration with Focus and to great effect. Shattered Dreams is a trademark Random roller, with ample attention paid to the harmonics and melodies often forgotten in DnB. Sauntering from intro to breakdown, the use of a subtle male vocal brings all the other elements together in a robust and soulful manner.
Bcee & Lomax have raised the bar in 2007 with a host of tantalising tracks, and One Year On is no different. Harnessing all the creative influence and prowess gained through years of hard graft is a mighty task but one that is achieved well for this debut release on the Innerground imprint. Precise and to the point, and featuring a stunning, sultry vocal from Deeizm, One Year On is liquid gold to the well versed DnB fan, with layered basslines at the upper and lower ends of the spectrum intertwined with body moving beats throughout.
INN022EP2 – THE MASTER PLAN PART 2
AVAILABLE NOW!!!
DJ Marky has been in cahoots with long time friends A-sides and Makoto for a few forthcoming projects and with Tonight it is easy to see why. The duo collaborate to dynamic effect with this soft and floaty number, making full use of the none too familiar sound of a “wah-wah” guitar and a quality vocal snippet, which brings the track back to a time gone by.
Random Movement’s second stab at the album is Ruthless Machine, which is pure and honest Innerground from the first to the last bar. A juicy piano track sucks you in as it encompasses a bassline, which glides from beat to beat with all the ease of someone walking up a flight of stairs, sexy, moving and potent all at the same time.
Bungle’s first release for Innerground, 25th Floor, gets a revamp for the album and attains VIP status. A joint re-edit from DJ Marky and Bungle gives the track the punchy beats that were not as pronounced in the original. A tougher track it may be, but the haunting vocal and harmonic summer vibe remains in this natural progression of a classic track.
Alix Perez makes his debut with a truly outstanding track, which incorporates a simplistic percussive element with a melodic female vocal. Crown City is one of the tracks that has been smashed around the dancefloors by some of the biggest names in the industry and we are happy to finally be able to bring the track to the masses.
So there you have it, eight sublime tracks from one of the front running DnB labels around, and if that wasn’t enough there’s more.

Recorded LIVE during the recent DJ Marky & Friends event tour of 2006, Innerground Records in association with Drum & Bass Arena are pleased to bring you DJ Marky Live.
DJ Marky's ability to put a set together of infinite quality is
notorious, not only as a performing DJ on tour but as a studio
